"Las meninas, after Velázquez", 2021

Technique: Oil on Canvas.
Size: 67x100cm

This painting is based on a personal interpretation of the famous and enigmatic work by Velázquez, "Las Meninas" (1656). Assuming Velázquez as a disguised protagonist in his own work, the artist seems to make use of the royal family and the noble environment portrayed in the painting, to claim his high status, socially and artistically. From this perspective, my interpretation is directed towards his projection in his own work, but with a self-reflective tone. Therefore, seeking to echo Velazquez's composition, I present my figure and a space that is more intimate to me, intending to show a reflective character about the artist's identity and role in today's reality.
